Generally speaking
Gay men are mobile and we travel all over the world for work assignments, vacations, recreation, adventure, and gay events (circuit parties, beach weekends, bear gatherings, cruises, etc.) We travel in sizable numbers to cities with large gay populations, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Miami, Montreal, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Sydney, and Toronto. We seek out cities that are more open and gay friendly. Where there is fun and friskiness, gay men meet in large numbers. That is part of the joy of our lives. However, we must also remember that it means that our risk of HIV and STD infection is greater, and that we must always be mindful of our sexual practices and the steps necessary to protect ourselves and our sexual partners!

If you know that you are infected with HIV or any other STD, it is vitally important that you inform your sexual partners, and in particular, those with whom you plan to engage in any risky sexual activity. If you are tested and diagnosed with HIV or any STD, it is only fair that you contact your past sexual partners to encourage them to get tested too! Being honest about our health status is one of the best ways for us to prevent the transmission of HIV and STDs. As the old adage says, "what goes around, comes around". If we help to reduce the risk of HIV and STD transmission, we reduce our risk of becoming infected or re-infected! We must all work to stop the spread of HIV and STDs for our own health and the health of all of our gay / bisexual brothers!

It has also been proven that the use of drugs (ecstasy, crystal meth, PCP, “Tina”, marijuana, and cocaine to name a few) and alcohol impairs one’s judgment and that riskier sexual behavior often occurs. With the use of drugs and alcohol in combination with sexual activity, you are more likely to become infected with HIV and other STDs. Be informed, be smart, be careful, and protect yourself every time you have sex!
